Give me a HIGH-5!

Basic Troubleshooting Skills are essential to empowering Students using Technology.  That's why we like to discover at least 5 ways to fix a problem before raising our hand for help! Here are some examples:

Login issues...how frustrating is that!!  Invariably, Students who have login issues first think it's about the password.  They'll type it in again and again and then raise their hand for help!  Instead, have the Students think through these troubleshooting steps:
1) Is your username spelled correctly?
2) Are the numbers correct?
3) Are their additional spaces at the beginning, in between or at the end?
4) Usernames & Passwords are CaSeSeNsItIvE!
5) Then...is the password correctly typed

Printer issues....another ugh!!  Have the Students try these ideas, before that hand goes up:
1) Where have you printed to...check your setting?
2) Is the printer turned on?
3) Is the printer loaded with paper?
4) Are the ink levels ok?
5) Is there a paper jam?

Once Students get the hang of finding 5 checks, I challenge them to come up with 5 checks for these Techy Issues: "I can't find my document", "This Browser won't load", "I can't access this program" and more.

HIGH-5!
